Dear room 6 from Saint Puis

Dear room 6

Thank you for inviting us to come and see your wonderful talent. It was so fascinating to meet you since you  have extraordinary personalities. Julia and Zedamisis, I enjoyed socialising with you. Zedamsis told me to call her Z and Julia said that Z is the most silent student. I also liked Mrs Moodley, she is a very determined and persuasive lady. I already knew how to play ukulele but it was fun playing with other children anyway. Room 11 wishes we could come again or even if you  can come to our school and we can even teach you how to cha cha.

Yours sincerely

Netbook Reflection 2012

I love learning in a fun way with an awesome tool. It has been so amazing and wonderful having the net books for the last 2 terms. I have enjoyed having the netbook for so many reasons. It has improved my learning.

I like posting positive and specific comments on students work from different schools, sometimes they provide feedback when I share my stories online. I have read stories from children of the Manaiakalani Trust. The thing I love most of all is having a break of learning to play games. In writing it is good to see mistakes automatically fixed. With the net book, when I'm reading something online that I don't understand I can easily get a better understanding by using an online dictionary. There is no need to pull out math books now because there is web activities already set for me on my class web site.

The most annoying and irritating thing about my net book is not having the internet wireless connection working properly sometimes. Sometimes my friends would pop up by my desk and start chatting away and that is embarrassing because I'm trying to work, but also trying to keep them company too. I would hate to be addicted to my net book because then I will have no friends and I would be anti-social.
If I was off task and I blamed it on the changes of my net book then it will be taken of me and I never want that to happen.

I talk way  more with my friends then play on my net book because there is way more to talk about then play online games. I found it fascinating that my net book can talk. My net book often pronounce words for me.

I love my reflections of my net book and I would love to explore a lot more for my journey next year. The number one goal for me is to always complete my work and share with anyone around me. I would love to create my own  reading website for the junior children.

Learn, Create, Share

Walt: Learn Create Share

On Friday room 2 and room 1 met up with room 11 at the library. Room 11 learnt about animal features and we created an online book for the junior classes. After we created our ebook we shared it and they enjoyed listening. Some children wanted to sit on chairs and others were perfectly fine on the floor. I thought it was really easy for them to read. All I need to improve now is to let the children read with confidence and make the presentation interesting. The way I can make it interesting is to add more pictures and make it more informative.

Adventurous Max

Walt: write a story in sequence.

Adventurous Max

Last week Max had done an adventurous jump. He was really nervous at first until he finally came to a confident point where that was his only choice. In the atmosphere, he said he never felt so alive in his whole life. He travelled up there by a helium balloon. The balloon stayed living in space when he jumped. His very first time to beat the historical world record for free fall was an awesome sight for his spectators on T.V.

Up so high , with no one near him, he never felt so free. His friend was telling Max when to go. The one and only extreme fear he had was of heights. The  only way he can get that fear out of his mind was by conquering it. He had to always take a look out the balloon before he jumped and the view of the earth was like a big round bouncy ball.

Max said to himself "I can hear my own heart beat loudly.”

When he jumped he was doing all sorts of tricks in the air, back flips, cartwheels and even pretending to be a pool. When he was going through the atmosphere  and in the  inside of his suit was really hot. He could feel the suit go through but luckily his friend told him to put on another suit just in case his suit burns on fire. It was burning so fast that he almost felt it on his skin. Max was brave to not even care about it.

He almost was on the ground and he didn’t pull out his parachute. His mind was pulled away by doing too many tricks. His friend was warning him through his ear telling him to push the parachute button and he wasn’t listening. Max looked down and he saw the ground coming closer but actually he was going closer to the ground. Max was looking for the push button and he couldn’t find it, Max was in panic mode. He told his friend to activate the target big bouncy castle. His friend listened and he put it down quick. The hard part for Max is to land on it and not next to it or at the back of it, right on it. He landed just right but fell of.

He said it was his most terrifying experience he had. Max had a great time, his moment of life.
The theme of this story is to be prepared and to give it a go.

Teach me how to "disco"

It was amazing. The children were hot and sweaty. They had an amazing time. In the hall it was really hot so we definitely need air conditioning next disco. There were dancing competition for the children and the funniest song playing was  gangnam style. Everybody likes gangnam style because its an active, dancing song. The most coolest song playing that night was teach me how to dougie. In my eyes, the saddest song that night was purple rain. All of my best friends were there except one which was okay for her. Britney Won a lot of dance offs and sometimes others. The disco was about having fun and dancing with your friends. The music was modern and old school music at the end of it.

Survey and report

Walt: write a report about on my survey.

Survey and report

Recently, I came up with an idea to figure out what time the students at Glen Innes school, would like to go home? I came up with only 5 ideas. At lunch time and morning tea, I walked around searching for students and their answers. Fifty students were surveyed.

I used excel to draw my graph. My data was represented in a column graph.

The results revealed that the students mostly ticked other. The 2nd time was 5:00 pm and 3rd was 6:30pm. The two least best time was 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm. 5:30 pm had 1 student and 6:00 pm had zero.

Most children probably voted for other because they don't play or they don't come back till very late. The other reason  is because the parents don't care or the children just don't listen.

Mr. Grundy

Walt: write a narrative.
Technology
Every Monday is our time to go to technology, only year 7. I can’t wait to go again because we do wood work.

We always go on Mondays to Tamaki College to go and do our creation. The year 7 go to the workshop next to food tech. We just came from food tech after making some yummy snacks. On our first day Mr. Grundy just did talking and we drew our ideas.

We are being creative and making it become real. We used a bench vice and some tools such as a saw. A new tool I have never seen before is a trysquare. The try square helps you to get your lines right on you joint. My creation is a recipe holder, it helps you to cook and read your recipe so it comes in handy.

We always go after morning tea all the way to lunch time. It feels so short and sometimes really long when it is boring, I don’t think it’s boring. We get there by a bus and travel back the same way. We all wait for Mr. Grundy outside of the workshop and he will walk pass and take us inside.

We go to technology to learn how to use housing joints. Mr. Grundy teaches us how to use tools and wood but not mental parts. He tells us about safety rules and the stools that we sit on. He tells us not to fiddle because that means we are not working. After we have chosen our ideas for our creation then we will evaluate.

Measuring is really hard for me because we have to explain what angle is this and what centimetre is that and the other hard thing for me is sawing the wood. The saw had to be straight and had to be in a correct angle. The next thing I have to do is to; put my joints in for my recipe holder. Experiencing to use tools and to be creative was the fun part.

The best thing I love about technology is using the tools Mr. Grundy gave to use and showed us. I just can’t wait till next Monday.

Bizarre Food Festivals

Walt: write a summary.

Weird and Wacky Food Festival

I have been learning about bizarre festivals and these are the three wacky and weird festivals I have chosen.

In Coopers Hill, in England, adults and children roll the cheese down the hill and chase after it. The one that catches the cheese and holds on to it for the rest of the trip down the hill wins a prize. The festival is held each White Monday and it has been a tradition since 1993. This strange festival represents the birth of the new year of winter. People all over the world come to participate in this festival now, before it was just people from England.

The Pancake festival is the most famous festival of all. In the pancake festival only young housewives about 18 years old could participate.
They have to race to the finish line and win a prize at their local church immediately if they have won the race. The race is about 415 yards long to run and the place is held in Britain at the UK. They have to start the race before lent begins and at the end of the race they have to toss the pancake in the air.

Tomato festival is the biggest festival ever and it is held on the last Wednesday of August and it is held in Bunol Spain. The people have to climb up a pole to get the ham and the first person to get the ham is the first person to play in tons of tomato. They have a whole week to play in the street with tons of tomato's all over the place. Some say that they do that because it is fun and most say that the councilors are unfair.

These are the Weird and Wacky Festivals that I think are the weirdest festivals ever.
The cheese festival is the weirdest and the Tomato festival is the biggest and the Pancake Festival is the most famous. I would really love Glen Innes to have a festival and it will be called ‘the takeaway festival.’

Thank you Pak'n'save

Dear Chris Wood

I really loved what you did for our beautiful school,Glen Innes.
It really touched my heart because I've been at this school for 8 years and no other supermarket did this in history of our school.
The filling I enjoyed most is the lettuce.
It was juicy and so tasty so I just ate a little at a time.
I did like the rest of the other fillings but the lettuce was the unique one.
The dentist told me something about the lettuce that keeps the saliva in your mouth.
We used up all the rest of the fillings for our own creations.
I appreciate the healthy food you provided us with and how you liked us all shopping there.
You run a very exquisite supermarket.

I appreciate everything you did for our school, Thank you.

Yours sincerely

Olympsim

I learnt about Olympic Values. My Olympic Values are Friendship and Courage. I think Valerie Adams had the courage to challenge Nadzeya Ostapchuk in the shot putt that is why she is the best athlete. The next Olympic Value I would like to learn is Determination.

Biggest Appreciation

Dear Mum
Thank you for paying for my netbook. For maths it can help me add and subtract fractions between stages 6-7. For reading my netbook will help me understand the author's language and his intention. For writing (my favourite subject) I can just do more persuasive stories and research more information on the internet. I think of you when I log on my netbook, sometimes I wonder if giving my money to pay for it myself.

Thank you so much mum and I love my netbook so much because of you, thank you very much. I really appreciate it. I love you a lot.

Your child
